SpiritHouse Presents Journeys: Africana Women and Healing* This multimedia interactive workshop and performance series of prose, poetry and essays, draws from diverse works of women throughout the Diaspora, replacing isolation and silence, with collective spirit and voice. Inspired by the words of Audre Lorde’s “Your silence will not protect you,” facilitators share stories, and lead small group conversations that support individual and community healing. Traveled Bodies meditative art installation* “Traveled Bodies: Policing Blackness and the Technology of state violence: a HERstorical Perspective,” is a meditative multimedia installation on the pervasive tapestry of police brutality as it progresses from slavery to now. We the artists pay homage to the revolutionary women’s arts movement, our resilient bodies who continue to create under this haunting violence, and our brothers and sisters locked up in modern day plantations here and abroad. This artistic response remains a constant evolution o the revolution, transforming and transcending as we choose to holistically heal ourselves. *Both the “Africana Women and Healing” workshop and performance series, and the “Traveled Bodies Policing Blackness…” meditative installation, are done in partnership with UBUNTU a Women of color led coalition committed to ending gendered violence throughout the world. |
