Nommo – Cookies and Milk
The Cookies and Milk workshop series is firmly rooted in our commitment to strengthening connections within families and communities. Each event brings people together to listen, share and create stories that promote literacy, increase communication, celebrate our cultures, and discover things that link us together. Families are encouraged to bring their favorite stories, tales, proverbs and fables to share with each other.
Our Stories, Our Way workshops provide tools for individual and/or groups to share everyday stories in a laid back, like you’re uncle’s family reunion tales, style. Participants will learn the art of audio documentation from choosing a story, to audio recording, editing and sharing your work. These workshops are designed for individuals and/or groups.
How do we support dialogue, action and growth across generations? Growing Across Generations workshops break down what Paulo Friere calls “The banking concept of education” where, “the teacher teaches and the students are taught… the teacher talks and the students listen—meekly…”
Using participatory education techniques, facilitators and workshop participants discover things that help community groups, organizations, teachers and family members work together to create safe, welcoming and nurturing spaces that honors each persons contributions. Participants will create a plan of action that strengthens the intergenerational relationships in their lives and communities.
